Inspect, disinfect, and certify cooling towers.

The scope of our projects range in size from small facility cooling tower systems to much larger hyperbolic towers.  The WTS goals are to maintain cooling tower cleanliness for safety and operational readiness.  Thus it is critical to control bacteria such as Legionella.  (Read more about Legionella here).  Periods of non use during cool weather months can compound the problem.  WTS recommends cleaning all towers twice per year at the beginning of the cooling season and at the end of the cooling season with hypochlorite and biodispersant, power washing each cell, and applying a continuous chemical treatment program .  WTS also recommends applying a biocide application to control bacteria.

Additionally, some states require towers to be cleaned and certified on a predetermined schedule and the work must be completed by a licensed professional. ie State of New York NYCRR_Title 10 Part 4


Domestic Water Sampling, testing, and treatment

Description: WTS was contracted to supply a complete service oriented water treatment, sampling, and test program for the domestic potable water service at a large hospital  A major component of maintaining drinking water quality involves real time monitoring, scheduled water sampling, and chemical treatment. WTS supplied trained and certified technical support personnel for the fulfillment of this contract. WTS provides all the necessary equipment, tools, materials, and other services necessary to perform domestic water sampling, testing, and delivery of samples to certified labs.

Baseline Established – WTS needed to establish a baseline from which to operate. This consisted of monitoring all equipment and requirements that were necessary to complete the contract. This allowed us to identify early on any problems we may encounter to proactively seek solutions. We did this by closely monitoring influent water to the facility. All operational parameters were checked and monitored on a periodic basis. This testing included water parameters such as pH, conductivity, temperature, hardness, and chlorine. Initially and periodically (quarterly) it will be checked for PSA (particle size analysis). The intent of the baseline testing is to establish a starting point that will allow continues improvement in process management at the facility.

Tracking – WTS established the use of an on-line database that will allow systematic tracking of parameters, testing, operations, and maintenance at the facility. The database was formatted using commercially available software. Essentially this database would be used to track all daily maintenance, treatment, operational, and inspection data. These types of databases are currently being used at the CRRC and would be no problem for us to implement and use.

WTS is required to keep meticulous records associated with the services we are providing to the facility. These records will be prepared and maintained in a database of water use, meter readings, tests, equipment status, chemical use, correspondence, and customer complaint log. A standardized form will be developed so that customers can issue complaints against taste, odor, or anything that may be cause for concern. Similar forms and information systems can be utilized for facilities management.

Maintenance – WTS was systematic in development of a maintenance plan that supports the equipment of the facility. This plan includes all preventative maintenance items recommended by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Consumables such as filters, spare parts, and oil use will be logged and tracked so that a typical use rate can be established. Any meters and gauges associated with the system will be logged. System “normal” running parameters will be established and adjustments will be made as necessary.

System Pumping Efficiency and Integrity – checks will be conducted periodically to ensure pumps, valves, and piping associated with the system is functioning properly. This inspection and walk down will help to ensure the security of the system as well.

Standard Operating Procedures – will be reviewed and developed as necessary. All decisions regarding the system will be made by considering the quality of the product delivered to the customer. Yearly refresher training will be held and discussed with operators and technicians.
