WTS takes pride in giving back to the community and supports organizations and causes throughout.

Career Day

First Defense staff was invited to a intermediate school for Career Day.  Students got to learn about how maintaining a building.  encompasses multiple job duties to ensure functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency by integrating people, place, process and technology.

 

WTS Demonstrates the Steps to Make Water Safe

Water Treatment Services’ technical staff provided a learning opportunity for an elementary school class to demonstrate the process of making water safe. West View Water Authority provided booklets to explain the water cycle and how it is a never-ending process.

Students got to see firsthand the process of taking dirty water and making it clean. They learned there is more to it than just turning on the faucet and getting clean water.

 

A Soldiers Child

A Soldiers Child mission is to serve the children of fallen military personnel who have given their lives on active duty while defending the United States of America.  A Soldiers Child has three points of service for the children of those military members who have died in service to their country:

  • To celebrate each ASC recipient birthday until the age of 18.
  • To sponsor ASC Journey Camp each summer.
  • To facilitate in college scholarships for qualified ASC children

WTS staff proudly donated their time and efforts to A Soldiers Child to bring joy to a child of a fallen soldier.

Teaching Elementary Students

WTS values opportunities to promote youth’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and encourages youth participation in activities related to water treatment and real world applications.

On March 29, 2017 WTS presented at a local elementary school.   WTS Technicians, Bill Campbell and Greg Thompson showed students and staff how water from streams and ponds are processed to create clean drinking water.  Questions from students and staff were answered; all enjoyed the hands-on learning experience.

Operation Sweet Appreciation

WTS and First Defense Operations Management is a proud supporter of Operation:  Sweet Appreciation through GSWPA [Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania]

Through Operation: Sweet Appreciation, GSWPA sends cookies to our military at-home and overseas. Last year, GSWPA Girl Scouts sent more than 43,000 packages to military men and women!Sweet Appreciation

The John F. Fortney Charitable Pancreatic Cancer Research Group

In August 2016, WTS was a Corporate Sponsor for the The John F. Fortney Charitable Pancreatic Cancer Research Group.

S.T.E.M. Day

WTS values opportunities to promote youth’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and encourages youth participation in activities related to water treatment and real world applications.

On May 6, 2015 WTS presented at Hawntown Elementary School’s 3rd-annual Stem Day.  Students and teachers had the opportunity to ask questions about how organics are added to wastewater to improve settling and remove impurities.  Students learned how this process creates cleaner water for our streams and ponds.

Wounded Warriors

The Wounded Warriors Project fosters the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. They raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, help injured service members aid and assist each other, and provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.  WTS proudly donates to the Wounded Warriors Project and appreciates those who have served.

Andrew’s Avengers

Andrew’s Avengers is raising money to assist the O’Neil family pay their son Andrew’s medical expenses and increase awareness of the pediatric cancer from which he suffers.    WTS registered a team in Andrew’s Avengers Kickball Tournament and spent the day supporting the O’Neil family and friends at the community event.
